On Earth Day, Sustainability Brant Community Energy Co-op (SBC Energy Co-op) announced the launch of their 250 kW solar project on the roof of the Brant Sports Complex in Paris, Ontario.
The project was developed through partnership between the County of Brant, and with support from Bullfrog Power. In a press release, SBC Energy Co-op President Frank Farkas said,
“Today is an important day for SBC Energy Co-op. This launch marks the realization of our vision of facilitating community participation in new renewable energy generation… Projects like the Brant Sports Complex Solar are a fantastic example of how individuals can come together to make their communities more sustainable.”
The co-operative welcomed co-op members and local councillors to their launch event last week, which was a full day of celebration that included another solar project ribbon cutting on an industrial rooftop, as well as participation from members of the local Six Nations community.
They also called upon some of their youngest investors - eight-year-old twin sisters Grace and Sophie Carson - to speak about why they believe renewable energy is important today and into the future. Check out this video of the project launch:
